Files, languages, and practical limits
Vid2Subs accepts common video formats such as MP4, MOV, and WebM, plus common audio files when the browser can decode them. A filename extension alone does not guarantee playback: the codec inside a MOV or MP4 must also be supported by your browser. For the current browser-first pipeline, uploads are limited to 50 MB and videos are limited to five minutes. Those limits help keep local extraction and rendering manageable, especially on mobile devices.
The default Auto-detect setting asks the model to recognize the spoken language and create subtitles in that language. You can instead select English, Hindi, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Arabic, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Russian, Turkish, or Indonesian to guide recognition. Vid2Subs transcribes speech; it does not translate it into another language. Detection and accuracy still depend on the recording. Check names, numbers, and mixed-language passages against the audio before publishing.
